Tuff Enuff Trail Run
The beep on my watch told me I had completed my 4th mile. Sweat drenched my clothes as completely as if I had fallen into a creek. "2 miles + to go", I thought. It was a painful run, a delightful run....it was a joyful run.
As I ran downhill I was wondering if I would have enough energy to complete the final mile. Most of the end of the race was uphill--I knew this because I was running a 10K and this was my second loop on the 5K length course. I finally came out of the woods on the trail and pushed myself to speed across the grass to the finish line. The ups-downs-twists-turns of the trail had required the use of muscles that had not been used in too long. My stomach teetered on the verge of nausea and the still air of the tree shrouded trail had left me hot.
I crossed the finish line, grabbed the finishers metal, picked up a bottle of water and sought a shaded area to let my tired body rest.
Chrissy and Eva greeted me at the finish line and Chrissy took some pictures.
What a wonderful morning race. 10K trail run. I hope to find more trail runs and continue getting better at them.
