Bamboo Shoots and Leaves

Last night the air cooled down and I went for a run at dusk.  A 5.5 mile run.  It was a wonderful run and my new running shoes were amazing.

That was a huge blessing yesterday.

As we transition into life here I am going to be sharing some Thankfulness posts as a way to end each day with reflecting on the good.

Here are 3 things I am thankful for about this day:

1. We saw this crazy looking little dog that followed us down the street and stood and stared at us while we were in a shop.  This dog was so pathetic looking it was cute.  It looked like a shaved Chihuahua with Dalmatian spots and a bad haircut.  It was an incredibly cute/ugly dog.  It looked like it wanted us to take it home.

2.  I pointed at a picture to order food and I some how ordered curried bamboo shoots.  It did not come with rice so I said the word for rice and managed to order some.  The bamboo shoot curry was not spicy so I added a LOT of chilis to it from the bowl of chilis and fish sauce.  I succeeded.  It was spicy enough to almost make my eyes water.

The leaves I saw were in a wok.  They were piled about 2 feet high in the wok.  I have no idea what they were for.

3. I bought a bag of coffee.  I do not have a coffee grinder yet so I keep trying to find ground coffee that is reasonably fresh.  Tonight we were in Tesco Lotus and I found some Ethiopian Sidamo medium roast coffee.  I will try it in the morning.  It says it's tasting notes are Fruit and sweet.

Tomorrow we will try to get driver's licenses here.  I may need to post a lot more than 3 things I'm thankful for at the end of tomorrow.
