New License
Thankfulness List day 2:
1. A Hot Shower. This morning it was only 69 degrees F outside! I planned on showering this morning and I was so thankful for a hot shower. The way it works here is there is an electric water heater on the wall in the shower. If you've never seen a shower/bathroom of the style that is fairly common here let me describe it to you--The bathroom floor is slightly lower than the floor outside to the bathroom. The entire floor of the bathroom is tile and there is not a separate enclosed shower area--it is in one side of the room. In the bathroom where we are staying the shower is at the back of the room and there is a shower curtain across the room that keeps the water from spraying (too much) into the rest of the room where the sink and toilet are. The hot water heater is connected to an electrical source outside of the shower area to make it safe and the water source is the water coming out of the wall through a pipe into the water heater. The shower sprayer is directly connected to the hot water heater. Thus, the cold water goes into the hot water heater on one side and come out through the shower from the other side. It is a hot water on demand system that automatically kicks on when the water is turned on. I was so thankful for a hot shower this morning.
2. Chrissy and I both got our Thai licenses today! We started this process by getting our International Driving Permits before leaving from the United States. Because we had the International Driving Permits we were exempted from the written and driving tests. We did have the enjoyment of watching a 1 hour video on traffic rules and regulations this morning. The narration was voiced by a British man and it reminded me of watching episodes of Planet Earth. I now know that if I am ever driving a motorcycle with a side car ice cream freezer I am mandated to use the extreme left lane. After we obtained our licenses we took some pictures in the parking of our smiling faces and then left. Just trying to get out of the parking lot I may or may not have accidentally violated 4 or 5 of the best practices presented in the 1 hour driving video we had just watched.
In order to get the licenses we had to have the right kind of visa, address, phone number, resident certificate, medical physical exam and form, multiple photo copies of multiple IDs/documents. We are very thankful to have our licenses.
3. A good book. I'm thankful for the book I'm reading right now. (really I'm reading more than one but I'm going to share about being thankful for one of them in particular) I'm reading Becoming Odyssa by Jennifer Pharr Davis. It is her account of her first thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. I would love to hike the AT some time and I have enjoyed reading some books about the AT and the Pacific Crest trail in the past few months. Jennifer's account is an enjoyable read and it feels real and honest. I read A Walk in The Woods about a month ago and enjoyed it for how it present the AT; however, I like the presentation of the AT that Jennifer gives since she was much better prepared for the physical demands of the trail than the 2 men in A Walk in The Woods. Thankful for a good book and that I got it for $1.99 as an October Kindle monthly deal.
I'm hoping to do a 10K run for fun sometime tomorrow so I'll be thinking of some Thankfulness ideas during my day and that run tomorrow.
